Florida has partnered with the Wrap Recycling Action Program (WRAP), sponsored by the Washington, D.C.- based American Chemistry Council (ACC), primarily aimed at boosting plastic bag and film recycling. The new partnership was announced on the Florida Recycles Day at the Capitol on 24th January, 2019.

In addition to focusing on boosting plastic bag and film recycling, the WRAP program is also designed to boost demand for recycled plastics and provide educational assistance to residents on understanding the benefits of film recycling. WRAP will offer support to Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in their community outreach and awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of plastic film packaging recycling.

Shari Jackson, Director-Flexible Film Recycling Group (FFRG) expressed pleasure in Florida becoming a WRAP partner. Meantime, Noah Valenstein, Secretary, FDEP stated that by joining the WRAP initiative, Florida will be able to achieve significant reduction in curbside recycling contamination. In addition, its residents will be provided with more recycling opportunities, thereby helping it to preserve its natural resources from getting depleted.

During the event, Falls Church, Virginia-based Northrop Grumman was recognized with Recycling Recognition Award by the FDEP for its outstanding recycling efforts. The company had demonstrated its commitment to environmental protection by implementing various environment-friendly practices and innovative recycling methods.
